The Unholy Place
In Progress...
Sparks were flying and concrete was being poured.
Materials: Rebar, Concrete, Wood, Fabric, Spray Paint, Magnet, Dowels
Artist Statement:
This sculpture visually conveys themes of isolation and confinement. The use of heavy materials such a concrete and metal set a serious tone, while the doll furniture gave the feeling of childlike play, contrasting the content matter.
Elements That Inspired
The Movie: Shawshank Redemption
Life experience:
My mum worked at Hillsborough County Department of Corrections for 40 years.
I grew up listening to stories of her work.
While I was always proud her commitment to her career,
this piece is a juxtaposition on growing up with a parent in corrections.
I wanted the piece to feel heavy
&
Include many objects that can be arranged
I want my audience to interact with it
&
feel kind of weird about it
