Art 21 Response

 https://art21.org/artist/janet-olivia-henry/

When I see Janet Olivia Henry's work, the words cultural adornment come to mind.

Work #1 contains the element of space. Henry arranges many small plants, objects and a seated figurine within a limited platform, showing how space can be organized and filled. The backdrop makes the scene stand out, while the placements of items creates depth.

Work #2 contains the element of texture. Henry used an array of materials, including beads shells, feathers, nuts, gems and more that create a rich layered surface. The top is densely packed while the bottom thins and gives the feeling of movement.
